We also talked about compelling reasons why they <em><strong>should<\/strong><\/em> do this, other than the fact that they&#8217;re just, y&#8217;know, very good ideas.<\/p>\n<p>From the Article:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>To \u201cbracket out\u201d bias, Williams says, \u201cI have to recognize how I create systems and code my understanding of the world.\u201d That means making an effort early on to pay attention to the data entered. The more diverse the group, the less likely an AI system is to reinforce shared bias. Those issues go beyond gender and race; they also encompass what you studied, the economic group you come from, your religious background, all of your experiences.<br \/>\n\u2026<br \/>\nThat becomes <a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20201109005732\/https:\/\/www.hpe.com\/us\/en\/insights\/articles\/4-obstacles-to-ethical-ai-and-how-to-address-them-1807.html\">another reason to diversify the technical staff<\/a>, says Williams. This is not merely an ethical act. The business strategy may produce more profit because the end result may be a more effective AI. &#8220;The best system is the one that best reflects the wide range of lived experiences and knowledge in the world,&#8221; he says.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><div style=\"width: 1053px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"marquee-img\" src=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20201109005732\/https:\/\/www.hpe.com\/content\/dam\/hpe\/insights\/articles\/2018\/07\/4-obstacles-to-ethical-ai-and-how-to-address-them\/featuredStory\/How-to-fix-AI.jpg.transform\/nxt-1043x496-crop\/image.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1043\" height=\"496\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">[Image of two blank, white, eyeless faces, partially overlapping each other.]<\/p><\/div>To be clear, this is an instance in which I tried to find capitalist reasons that would convince capitalist people to do the right thing.
